Alfred Louis Hartig Jr, age 92, of Boulder City, NV passed away on December 26, 2013. He was born on April 7, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY to Alfred and Ethel (Poppe) Hartig. Alfred served his country in United States Air Force. He served during World War II, the Korea and Vietnam wars. In 1968, after retiring from the military as a Major, he taught high school and became the high school assistant principal at Yucaipa High School, for many years
Alfred was a family man and a man of God. He was a member of Grace Community Church. He loved to work with his hands and was an excellent wood worker and metal worker. Alfred was an active member of the American Legion. He recently received his 65 year pin from the Masonic Lodge. He was also a retired Elk member.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Hartig; two sons William "Bill" Hartig and wife Rebecca, John Hartig and wife Laurie; a daughter Elizabeth Borski and husband Robert; two stepsons Bill Summerfield and his wife Maria, and Scott Schick. Twelve grandchildren Katie Wells, Andrew Hartig, Tara Gordon, Chris Brown, Brad Borski, Kyle Borski, Nick Hartig, Eric Hartig, David Summerfield, Daniel Summerfield, Katie Swinski, and Sara Hogan. Alfred also has 16 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Doris Martin Hartig; a son Alfred Hartig III; and a daughter Barbara Brown.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr Boulder City, NV. Alfred will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Community Church in Boulder City, NV in his honor.
