Alva Weaver Phelps was born April 2, 1947 in Saginaw, MI and passed away at the age of 74 on October 28, 2021 in Las Vegas, NV.
Al had a distinguished military career. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy and selected to attend Vanderbilt University. He received a commission upon graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering and retired from active duty in 1987 as a Lieutenant (O-3). His career continued as a civilian defense contractor and his final retirement from JT3 came in 2012. He took up woodworking as a hobby and created many beautiful projects as well as many practical items for the house. His other passion was golf, which he tried to do at least once a week.
Al is survived by his wife of 17 years, Susan Ripley of Henderson, NV; sons Daniel Phelps and Jason Phelps (Michelle) of Jacksonville, FL; stepson Eric Maxwell of Syracuse, NY and stepdaughter Kristin Blackstone (John) of Las Vegas, NV; brother Gene Phelps (Karen); brother John Phelps (Karen); sister Christine Miller (Jim); several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Interment will be held at 8:00 a.m. on December 15, 2021 at Boulder City Veteran’s Cemetery.
