Anthony “Tony” Michael Tubbs (March 15, 1940 – December 30, 2024)
Tony Tubbs was born in San Diego, California on March 15, 1940 to Lon and Ruth Tubbs and he was the second oldest of their 4 children. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Loma Portal and Pt. Loma High School before moving on to San Diego State University. Tony had a long career at Scripps Institution of Oceanography as a computer scientist working on climate and weather forecasting models. He married his high school sweetheart Marilila Jensen and they had 9 children together.
Tony was an avid outdoorsman spending countless hours hunting and exploring the canyons and hills of San Diego prior to widespread development. He loved to collect Indian arrowheads and unusual rocks. He was also an outstanding fisherman who enjoyed catching lobsters and abalone at Sunset Cliffs and San Diego Bay. The Tubbs children were all spoiled for life after eating the freshest fish that Tony would catch on his many ocean trips.
Tony retired to Kimball Lake in Minong, Wisconsin with his second wife, Eileen-Marie Moore, to live on land that has been in the family for over 100 years. He spent his years there active in the choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving on the town council and advocating for the preservation of local lakes and rivers. He especially enjoyed woodworking and teaching many of his grandchildren how to fish.
Tony is survived by his 3 sisters and 8 of his 9 children - Lon Tubbs III (Nina), Mike Tubbs, Allison Jorgensen (Steve), Susan Caperna (Gary), Melanie Myers (Jim), Bob Tubbs (Charis), Sara Lee (Christopher) and Tyler Tubbs (Kelley); including 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
