Betty Meyer

August 2, 1923 — December 12, 2012

Betty M. Meyer, age 89, Las Vegas, Nevada, died on December 12, 2012. She was born August 2, 1923, the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Olrick) Maier in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. On December 27, 1943, she married George R. Meyer, the love of her life. Betty grew up in Beaver Dam and graduated from Wayland Academy. She attended Oshkosh State Teachers College and met George at the freshman mixer dance. While George completed dental school and his D.D.S. at the University of Minnesota, she taught grade school in Minneapolis and began her life-long love of teaching. As long-time residents of Oshkosh, she was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. After her husband George was honorably discharged from service in the U.S. Navy in 1953, she worked as office manager for George's dental practice on the south side, downtown, and on Jackson Street while also raising their four children. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending weekends at their land in Wautoma, Wisconsin. She loved to read, and during the Oshkosh years she returned to college to gain her reading certification and did private tutoring for children in reading skills. After retiring, they moved to Sebring, Florida, and then Las Vegas, Nevada, to enjoy the warm weather. Survivors include one son, George Meyer Jr., Las Vegas, Nevada, and daughters Dr. Luanna Meyer (Dr. Ian Evans), Wellington, New Zealand, and Lezlee (Bill) Hintz, Oshkosh, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Corey (Cyndi) Hintz, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Casey (Heather) Hintz, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Dr. Gia Voeltz (Dr. Brian DeDecker), Boulder, Colorado, Jennifer (Steven) Anderson, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Ralston Ezell Voeltz, Charleston, South Carolina, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving and devoted husband of 69 years Dr. George Meyer and daughter Bonnie Jensen. Cremation has taken place and the service was held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Boulder City, NV, on December 14, 2012.
