Calvin Filson

Calvin Dewhurst Filson, age 91, passed away on October 6, 2012. Calvin was born in Taylorville, IL to Glenn and Mary Filson on May 8, 1921. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. While serving, he met and married a Navy nurse, Edna Richard, on March 5, 1945. They moved to the Las Vegas where Calvin began his 39 year career with Trans World Airlines. After retiring, they settled in Boulder City, NV over 30 years ago.

Calvin loved his work and traveled the world. He and Edna also spent many fun filled adventures in their motorhome. He was a kind hearted man that volunteered in his church and often to help others. He was a drummer in the University of Illinois Marching Band and the Las Vegas Eldorado Marching Band. Wood working and fixing anything were his passionate hobbies. Family was the most important thing to Calvin. He enjoyed family dinners and joking around with his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called him Poppy.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Edna Filson of Boulder City, NV; three daughters Dana Stauffer of Boulder City, NV, Leah (Charles) Richard of Haines City, FL, Mary Filson of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a brother Charles and a sister Genevieve.

Funeral service will be held on October 12, 2012 at 11:00 am at Grace Community Church. Calvin will be laid to rest at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery following the service at 1:20 pm. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
