Carroll Stanton

Lt.Col. Carroll "Stan" Manning Stanton, USAFRet. passed away on November 4, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV at age 68. He was born to LaWanda Marie Manning Stanton and Carroll Lane Stanton on November 9, 1943 in Sapulpa, OK.

He graduated from Bitburg High School, at Bitburg, Germany. After high school he attended the University of Maryland at Munich where he was infamous for being the prankster, "Mad Bomber of Munich." He finished college at Oklahoma State University. He served his country in the United States Air Force realizing a dream to be a fighter pilot. During the Vietnam War, he and his squadron mates took the first F-4Es into combat, complete with the design of eyes and Tiger teeth that he and a friend created for the F-4E. During his combat tour, he flew 205 missions, earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses and many other awards, including the Air Medal with many oakleaf clusters. He was a member of the River Rats Association. He also obtained his Air Transport Pilot license (commercial pilot). He worked for civilian contractors developing weapons and tactical systems for the F-15 and A-10 aircraft. Later, he completed his Air Force career serving with the Active Reserves, retiring with 20 years of service. He was active in the community, organizing Neighborhood Watch on his street and further became a Neighborhood Watch Volunteer with the LVMPD as an educator across the Las Vegas Valley. He had been active in many organizations including serving in many executive positions for the Southern Nevada Square Dance Association, BMW Club and the Porsche Club of America for which he loved his 356C Porsche. He was a very mechanically inclined and loved to tinker and fix things. He enjoyed bowling, playing Bocce, square dancing, and enjoyed many social events where he could visit with friends.

Stan is survived by his son Carroll "Cary" (Susan) Stanton of Las Vegas, NV; his life partner Eilene French of Las Vegas, NV; a cousin Kandy (Neal) Stanton Miller; and his two precious grandchildren Joshua and Sydney of Las Vegas, NV.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 29, at 11:20 am at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
