Charlene Hughes Clem

Mesquite, NV – Charlene Hughes Clem, age 81, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022 in Mapleton, UT, and joyously returned to our Heavenly Father. She was born June 19, 1941 in St. George, UT to Charles Esmond & Inez (Pickett) Hughes. She married Dennis Fredericke Clem on November 6, 1965 in Mesquite, NV and later divorced in 1987.
Charlene was raised in Mesquite NV with her parents & three other siblings & later, her 2nd eternal mother & sister. She graduated from Virgin Valley High School in May 1959 after serving on the yearbook staff, FHA & choir. She left home to attend Utah State University. She was only able to attend one semester before having to return home to help take care of her younger sister & sick mother. After getting married, she lived in several cities and states while raising their five children. She held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints & has had so much love for the gospel. She learned many traits through the years that she took in as her hobbies, from sewing, quilting, canning, cake decorating & in her final days, making hot pot holders. She loved her family very much and cherished every waking moment she had with each of them. Especially playing Phase 10 when we were all together. She took in every stray animal & her children’s friends when a home was needed as she had a heart of gold. She endured so many life trials & came out stronger than ever. Our mother was a Saint!
She is survived by her children Charles (Gayla) Clem, Mesquite, NV; Martha (JD) McCoy, Mapleton, UT; Adam Clem, Mesquite, NV; Luke (Jessica) Clem, Las Vegas, NV; daughter-in-law Peggy Clem, Buckeye, AZ; 17 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren; sisters LaWanna Shakespeare, Las Vegas, NV; Dixene (Richard) Canterbury, Las Vegas, NV; Ethel (Reid) Kimura, Westminster, CA; & many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
