Daniel Lee Gaul (Culver) was born in Vancouver, Washington on February 1, 1945, the oldest son of H. G. “Jake” Gaul and Mildred Grant, later Mildred Culver. His parents divorced when Dan was in the 5th grade and his mother remarried Robert Culver, whose surname Dan adapted. He grew up in Portland, Oregon, graduated from Cleveland High School, attended college in California for a year, then returned to Portland and began a long and successful sales career in the automobile business. At age 22 he married Jeanette (Boch?) and fathered two sons, Robert and Jesse. They divorced in 1980. In 1982, he married Gail Dailey, whom he had met at an AA meeting in Welches, Oregon. He became the step-father of her three children, and as all 5 children married, the grandfather of 8 beautiful grandchildren and eventually the great-grandfather of 9. His family was the essence of his life. He was devoted to them, as they were to him. Dan and Gail spent 43 wonderful years together, living first in Welches, where they opened a bakery named One-Day-At-A-Time Mountain bakery. Neither of them knew anything about the bakery business, and while it was popular, it never generated enough income to remain viable. They closed it in 1983 and moved to Portland, Oregon. Dan returned to the car business via joining a lease-training company called Half-A-Car. He left their employment after 5 years and opened his own company, The Gaul Group in Mesquite Nevada. Dan loved his work and all the people he felt privileged to work with in automobile dealerships around the country. As a Catholic, and 44 year member of Alcoholic Anonymous, Dan was a deeply spiritual man.
A funeral mass and reception will be held at La Virgin de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mesquite, Nevada, at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
