Dortha Mae Pinson

Dortha Mae Pinson, age 96 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Beehive Homes Assisted Living in Mesquite, Nevada.

She was born July 13, 1928 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Newton and Selah (Bird) Preston.

In 1940 Dortha moved with her family from Oklahoma to Phoenix, Arizona where she finished her education and entered the workforce. On November 19th, 1945 she married Alton Zack (A.Z.) Pinson, the love of her life. Dortha was the loving mother of three children, Larry, Sharon and Beverly. While she and A.Z. raised their kids, Dortha was also a dedicated employee of Motorola in Phoenix. She worked hard and became a supervisor of an electronic crystal growing facility. Upon retirement Dortha was presented with an achievement award for perfect work attendance over her career. Her dedication to work and family was undeniable. Dortha was very proud of her family. Her children and many grand and great grandchildren knew that they could count on her if they needed anything. She was the most loving and giving Mom and Grandma anyone could ask for. Dortha was an avid reader of mystery novels in her down time. She would spend hours at a time sipping her coffee and soaking in the desert sunshine as she read. Dortha loved gardening and house keeping and was proud of her home and property. There wasn’t a weed to be had. She was happy to visit her kids at their homes and was always up for an adventurous cruise or vacation trip. She loved to be on the go.

Dortha is survived by her sister Mary Ann Stage, Payson, AZ, whom she adored, her children; Sharon Boothe, Mayer, AZ; Larry Pinson and his wife Kathy of Payson, AZ; Beverly Rineck and her husband Ron of Mesquite, NV and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Not only did she love and adore her children, she loved and adored her Son-in-law, Ron and Daughter-in-law, Kathy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Zack Pinson; brother William Edward Preston; her Granddaughter Michelle Boothe and Son-in-law, William Boothe, all of whom she loved dearly.

Dortha was content at Beehive Homes in Mesquite Nevada where she resided for six years. She was lovingly known as “Gramma” by her extended family of staff and residents, even those older than her. 

Dortha’s family will be eternally grateful and would like to thank her Beehive Family for the dignity and respect that was bestowed on her while at Beehive.

Dortha will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10am by her beloved A.Z. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.starmortuary.com
