Eugene G. Herweg, 99, of Peoria formally of Boulder City, NV passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at UnityPoint- Proctor in Peoria . Eugene was born on Jan. 18, 1915 in Peoria to Godfrey and Emily (Pehl) Herweg.
He married Barbara Carolyn Mickelson on Sept. 3, 1966, in Riverside, Calif. She preceded him in death on Apr. 3, 2003 in Boulder City, Nevada. He was preceded in death by one sister, Elaine Kamp.
He is survived by three grandchildren, Major Jared Herweg, of Washington D.C., Aaron Herweg of Albuquerque, N.M., Daniel Herweg of Fargo, S.D.; three nieces, Connie Tumminelli, Linda Sefton, Wendy Grillo; one nephew, Gene Kamp; and five great-grandchildren. He honorably served in WWII Pacific Theater, US Army Air Corp. 500th Bomb Group. Eugene was the owner of Shakey's Pizza Parlors in Davenport, Iowa, Riverside, Calif., and Albuquerque, N.M.
A cherished grandfather; he enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. Always one for telling a good story, he authored and published "Sleeping in the Park," a collection of personal stories from the great depression (2010).
A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, held at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Boulder City, Nev. Father Robert Stoeckig will officiate. Burial will follow Mass at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be made in Eugene's memory to Casa Angelica, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tributes and condolences may be submitted bouldercityfamilymorutary.com
