Dr. Fae Terry Ahlstrom Jenacaro, age 97, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2014. She was born in Rockville, Utah on January 1, 1917 the oldest of eight children, to Marvin and LaMar Terry. She graduated from Dixie High School in 1934; Dixie State College in 1936 then went to work as a dental assistant for Dr. Jack Ahlstrom in St. George. They were married in 1941 and with his encouragement; Fae went to the University of Southern California where she was one of the first female graduates of the dental school, graduating in the top 10% of her class. Fae was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Dr. Fae was admired and respected among her fellow dentists. She was a member of the Clark County Dental Society, the Association of American Women Dentists and the Nevada State Dental Society, serving as Vice President and President. Additionally, Dr. Fae was appointed to the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners from 1971-1980 and Clark County District Board of Health from 1963- 1971 where she served as chairman from 1969-1971. As one of the foremost pediatric dentists in the region, Dr. Fae was a member of the American Academy of Pedodontics, and a lifetime Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Additionally, Dr. Fae was the only women member of the American Society of Dentistry for Children. After retiring in 1985, the city of Henderson proclaimed Sept. 10 as the Fae T. Ahlstrom Day. The Southern Nevada Dental Society, in 2008, established the "Dr. Fae T. Ahlstrom Heritage Award" which is presented annually to a member of the SNDS.
Fae was a very kind-hearted woman and served for years on the Board of Trustees of St. Jude's Ranch in Boulder City. "Doctor Fae's" Boulder City practice will be remembered by hundreds of patients (now grown up) who raided the treasure chest in her office after seeing Dr. Fae.
Her husband Jack passed away in 1969. She married Victor Jenacaro in 1973, and he predeceased her in 2013. Fae and Victor had a vacation home in Campbell River, BC, Canada where they enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends, and growing beautiful flowers. As a fun-spirited lady, Fae loved keeping up with the times, playing the organ, gardening, and making her famous Pomegranate Jelly from her homegrown trees.
Fae is survived in Nevada by her children Daniel Ahlstrom (Pandora), Dr. Robert Ahlstrom(Walli) and Jacqueline Barquist (Ed); grandchildren Luke Trusty, Lt. Brooke Ahlstrom, and RW Ahlstrom; a great granddaughter Kianna Ahlstrom. Fae's sister Janette Madsen of St. George, UT as well as many loving nieces and nephews also survive Fae. Her grandson Jack Ahlstrom predeceased Fae in 1986.
Fae always said, "Don't shed tears for me. I have lived a wonderful and fulfilling life." To honor her wishes, the family will be holding a small private service.
