Floyd Woods

Floyd Homer Woods, age 96 of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away on February 18, 2018.  He was born on September 7, 1921 in Mona, Montana, and raised in Nampa, Idaho.  Floyd served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII, participating in combat operations aboard the USS Portland, and the USS Twining.  During his wartime service, he achieved the rank of Chief Fire Controlman.  During a shore tour in 1943, Floyd met Dorothy (Dottie) Jackowska; they were married on November 3, 1945.  They enjoyed 62 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2007.  After leaving the Service, Floyd worked for Southern California Edison Company until his retirement in 1983.

Floyd was a multi-talented man, and loved to work with his hands.  He enjoyed the outdoors, wood working and tying flies.  He loved fishing, traveling, running, and helping friends and family with all manner of home and auto projects.  Floyd particularly delighted in his role as grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was a happy and content member of the Boulder City community for almost 50 years.

Floyd is survived by his four children:  Ed Woods of Phoenix, Arizona, Carl (Donna) Woods of Gardnerville, Nevada, Bruce (Jeanne) Woods of Chico, California, Mona (John) Stammetti of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren:  Wallace, Tyler, Marci, Richard, and Brianna; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Boulder City Family Mortuary, 833 Nevada Highway, Ste 1, Boulder City, NV 89005.  Funeral Services will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005 on March 2, 2018 at 9:20 am, where he will be laid to rest with his wife Dottie.  Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Floyd’s name to Honor Flight Southern Nevada (www.honorflightsouthernnevada.org).
