Gary Louis Aftoora

Gary Louis Aftoora, 80, passed away on June 8th, 2023 surrounded by the love and warmth of his family at his home in Boulder City, NV, after a prolonged illness. 

Gary was born on January 12, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Albert Aftoora and Jennie Aftoora (Mazzio). Gary's family relocated to Southern California, where he entered the Navy in 1967. He served with dignity until his honorable discharge in 1971. Following his military service, he pursued further education at a technical school and began working as a Communications Technician.

On June 28, 1975, he married Juanita Chavez in California. Together, they settled in Boulder City, Nevada, where Gary dedicated his career to the Department of Water and Power.

Gary will be remembered as a kind and generous man, who deeply cared for his family. He found joy in painting with watercolors and exploring the art of stained glass. Additionally, he had a passion for reading and cooking for his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Aftoora, his son Gary Aftoora (Boulder City, NV), and daughter Kimberly Lauridsen (Reno, NV). He is also survived by his son-in-law Reid Lauridsen, grandchildren Anakin and Hailey, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elaine, and brothers Albert and Charles.

A mass in his honor will be held on Monday, July 10, at 11:30 am at St. Andrews in Boulder City. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at the Veteran's Cemetery at 1:20 pm.
