Gary Frank LaComb, 88, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on August 10, 2023. He was born on April 20, 1935 to Frank and Merle Smith LaComb. Gary was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his daughter Jodie LaComb Atha, and his grandchildren Nick Atha and Jessica Atha. He is also survived by his sister Cherie LaComb Schmidt. Gary was preceded in death by his wife Leila Johnson LaComb, his son Brad LaComb, his brother Keith LaComb (Joan LaComb Dowd), and his brother-in-law Blane Schmidt (Cherie LaComb Schmidt) and parents Frank and Merle LaComb.
Gary attended Bingham High School and later furthered his education at Brigham Young University.
Gary's true passion was in athletics. He was a phenomenal athlete, excelling in multiple sports during his storied high school career. Football and baseball were his specialties, and he continued to play halfback at Brigham Young University. Gary even had the opportunity to play professional baseball in Canada for the Edmonton Eskimos. After his playing days Gary shared his knowledge and love for the game by becoming a successful high school coach at Juab High School in Utah and in Colton, California. He made many life-long relationships from this time of his life.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Gary was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He found solace and strength in his faith.
Gary's love for sports extended beyond his own participation. In his free time, he enjoyed watching games and supporting his favorite teams. He was an avid fan, who passed the time watching sports.
Memorial services for Gary Frank LaComb will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Mesquite City Cemetery located at 301 Hillside Drive, Mesquite, Nevada.
