Genevieve (Gen) Hickey, 92, of Boulder City Nevada, formerly of Helena and Ennis Montana passed away on April 23, 2013. Gen was preceded in death by her late husband of 40 years, Maurice Joseph Hickey, infant sons John Patrick and Patrick John, as well as her parents. She is survived by her sister Helen Burns (100) of Snohomish, Washington and her brother Orem Robbins (97) of Minneapolis; sons John Douglas (Sally) Hickey and Michael Patrick (Pamela) Hickey; four grandchildren Colleen Anne (Grant) Jamieson, Aaron Patrick Hickey, Sean Patrick Hickey and Brent Michael Hickey.
Gen was born in Minneapolis Minnesota to Dr. Douglas Ford and Grace Evelyn Robbins on November 20, 1920.
After high school, she spent time in art school and as a dining room server on a Great Lakes cruise ship. She followed her sister Helen to Dillon Montana to act as a nanny where she met the love of her life, Maurice Joseph Hickey. They were married in Moore Montana and lived in several Montana towns: Missoula, Eureka, Alder, Ennis, and Helena. Later in life she was a snowbird wintering in 1000 Palms, CA and summering at Canyon Ferry Lake in MT.
She owned and operated Hickeys Four Season's Motel in Ennis Montana from 1949 to 1995; 45+ years as a hotelier. She was a member of the Ennis Women's Club in the early years and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved to read and enjoyed the arts of painting and ceramics. She was an avid traveler and has seen many parts of the world. She enjoyed the maddening game of bridge, watching all sports, computer solitaire, the company of family pets and spending time with her grandchildren and extended family.
Always game for anything, at age 70 entered the world of extreme sports when she went para sailing while in Porta Villarta; at 75 she rode in a hot air balloon; at 80 she went sky diving and took a 3 month long cruise around the world; at 89 during a race she crewed on a sailboat, then at 90 she rode the downtown Las Vegas zip line at Fremont St. She was truly an example of a full and exciting life.
Services will be held in Ennis Montana at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on July 20, 2013 at 11:00am, with a vigil July 19 at 7:00pm.
