Goldie Begley

July 26, 1942 — November 10, 2011

Goldie Mae (Stackhouse) Begley, 69, of Boulder City Nevada passed away November 10, 2011, due to untreatable complications arising from eight months of hospitalization following heart surgery. A funeral service will honor her life on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Boulder Creek Golf Course Pavilion, Veterans Memorial Drive and Adams Boulevard, Boulder City. Private internment at the Boulder City Cemetery will follow.

Goldie was born in Independence, Mo., on July 26, 1942 to Wanda and Owen Stackhouse. She grew up with her 'bestest' friend Clara in the Blairstown/Chilhowee area of Missouri. She and Harold met in 1963 and were married in the fall of 1964. Her commitment to her family is demonstrated daily by her two wonderful and loving sons Robert Dean (Rob) and Eric John (Rick) Begley. The family resided in Kansas City, Mo., for 10 years prior to moving to Boulder City where she immediately fell in love with the community and the wonderful and caring people living here. Goldie was a true go-getter with a creative mind and energy to spare. Her job at the newspaper provided the perfect avenue into the community's activities along with being near home while all three of her boys were growing up, Harold included.

Goldie's personal, unselfish and very positive community-minded contributions to Boulder City include, but most definitely are in no way limited to being the Face of the News in Boulder City for more than a Quarter of a Century, as circulation and office manager for 17+ years and immediately prior to her retirement as Display Advertising Agent for HBC Publications (Henderson Home News and Boulder News parent company). Author of both weekly sports and Chamber Activities columns and recipient of numerous journalism honors in State competitions, recognizing her Display Advertising skills and journalistic accomplishments. Honored in 2002 by the Community Council of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce as one of three Communications Finalists out of over 300 nominees in the female category for embracing and displaying a journalistic, yet neutral, position regarding political issues and public officials while promoting the positive attributes of Boulder City at the City, County, State and National level.

She was committed to helping BC merchants following the trauma of the attack of 9-11 by assisting them in developing ways to promote economic growth and stability on a small budget.

As 'volunteer supreme' she put her big heart, small body and fast dancing feet into the community as coordinator for the Candy Stripers at the Boulder City Hospital, as Junior Bowling coach at Boulder Bowl, as a member of the planning committee for the hospital's annual Art in the Park, as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees for the Hospital, as President of the Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary, as a member of the Board of Directors for the ArtScape project, as a member of the Boulder City Strategic Planning Advisory Board, as one of the original members of the "Green Team", on coordinating committees for the annual Spring Jamboree, Christmas Tree lighting and Los Pasados/Luminary presentations, as President of the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce and as Chair of the Lay Person coordinating committee for the annual Easter Sunrise Service overlooking Lake Mead. She served as a member of the Boulder City Juvenile Conference Board, Boulder City Civil Service Commission, as decoration coordinator for the Christian Center Church and is a Past President of the Boulder City Sunrise Rotary Club and recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Goldie was the very proud recipient of the Chamber's Eva McGarvey award as "Member of the Year", with both the Sunrise Rotary's "Alice Isenberg Service Above Self Award" and the Community's Alice Isenberg "Award for Outstanding Community Service", twice as the Sunrise Rotary's "Rotarian of the Year", as the recipient of the Community "Lady of the Year" Award and the Bill Andrews Community Service Award.

She is loved by many but will be most lovingly remembered as Harold's caring best friend and very supportive and encouraging wife of 47 years, mother of two wonderful sons, Rob and Rick, and Taylor's extremely proud grandmother.

In lieu of all flowers, the family suggests that Goldie (with the 'hangy down G') Begley can best be honored with contributions in her name to one of the following by contacting the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce: the Boulder City Christian Center Church, The Boulder City Sunrise Rotary, the Boulder City Hospital or the BC ArtScape Project.
