Jack Strong

Jack Edward Strong, age 85, passed away after a long illness at his home in Henderson, NV, on January 12, 2021 with his family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie B. Strong; father, Roy Strong; brother's Robert and Everett Strong, and nephews John Strong, James Strong, Kris Kuhaneck, and Patrick Kuhaneck.  He is survived by his partner and wife of 43 years, Linda M. Strong; daughter Cristy L. Strong; sister Elthea Leuch: a niece and several nephews.

Jack was born in Salamanca, NY in February 1935 and grew up in Little Valley, NY.  He enlisted in the US Army in 1953 and was stationed in Bad Kissingen, Germany during the Korean War.  He was a Specialist Third Class Combat Engineer NCO and a Demolitions specialist in the 1st infantry division also known as the Big Red One. Jack received the Good Conduct and National Defense Service medals and was honorably discharged in 1955.  He returned to western New York State after his discharge.

Jack entered the construction industry as a laborer, received on the job training as a carpenter and later was promoted to construction superintendent.  He worked with Seneca Nation Chief Robert Hoag in Salamanca, NY on several projects to better the lives of tribal members.  Jack was an accomplished salesman, sales manager and national sales manager.  He eventually started his own business, Top Quality Products, in Jamestown, NY selling industrial lubricants and cleaning supplies.

Jack sold his business and retired at age 56.  Together with his wife, Linda, they moved into a motorhome and traveled the length and breadth of the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico from 1991 to 2005.  In 2011 they chose to make their home in Henderson, NV.

One of Jack's proudest accomplishments was being volunteer Chairperson for the first International Ice Fishing Derby in Thousand Islands, NY, in the mid 1970's.  The Derby assisted three local fire departments and is still ongoing today.

Jack enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, boating, camping, bicycling, kayaking, woodworking and going to vintage/classic car shows.  His favorite hobby was wood carving and he sold many of his walking sticks and carvings.

Jack chose Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City, NV as his final resting place.  He often biked there when he and Linda visited the area and found the location to be very peaceful.  He will have a short service with military honors at the cemetery on January 26, 2021 and will be laid to rest after the service.
