Jean P. Pratt, 84, of Baraga, MI (and Boulder City, NV) passed away peacefully Friday, February 1, 2013 at home in Boulder City, NV with husband Richard at her side. Jean was born November 20, 1928 in Alston, MI to the late James and Violet Grant. She was married to Jack Swanson from 1947 until his death in 1961; to Lorenz Rickert from 1965 until his death in 1987; and to Richard Pratt from 1994 to the time of her death. She was married three times and always said she was blessed to have such wonderful husbands. Jean worked at the Baraga State Park, and then for many years as the bookkeeper for the Baraga Public Schools. She was respected not only for her accounting skills, but also for her care and compassion for the staff and students in the Baraga schools. Jean led an active life that revolved around family and friends. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she served at various times as a Sunday School teacher and Treasurer. Jean enjoyed traveling; trips to Hawaii and Europe were the highlights of her adventures. She enjoyed attending any events in which her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated. Jean was a friend to all. She was a gentle, kind soul; the world is a better place because of her. Her incredible faith, strength, grace, and love for others will live on in all of us who were blessed to have her in our lives. Jean is survived by her caring husband, Richard; her children: Karen Mayo (Paul), Baraga, MI; Rev. Keith Swanson (Rebecca), Green Bay, WI; Marlene Swanson (Bonny Parker), Prior Lake, MN. Richard's children: Jeff Loman, Ward Loman, Doug (Lynn) Loman, Danny (Susan) Pratt. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Lori (Jeremy) Lange, Heather (Chad) Grentz, Kaitlin Swanson, Gregory Swanson, Paul (Iliana) Mayo and David Mayo; and seven great-grandchildren: Dylan, Ethan, Mara and Aiden Grentz; Ryan and Kaylee Lange; Max Mayo. Jean is also survived by her brother Donald Grant, Green Bay, WI and her sister-in-law Cathy Grant, Carpentersville, IL; nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husbands Jack Swanson and Lorenz Rickert; her parents; brothers James, Gilbert, and Robert Grant. A memorial service, celebrating the Resurrection and the Hope of Eternal Life, will be held later this Spring at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga, MI. Memorials may be made to the Church in Baraga.
