Jo Ann Stephans, a 19-year resident of Boulder City died (September 7, 2021) after brief illness.
Jo was born July 23, 1939 in Minneapolis MN while her family was stationed at nearby Ft. Snelling. She grew up in Northern Virginia, Germany, Kansas, Hawaii, and her family home in Houston, Mississippi. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
In 1960 she married then Lieutenant Richard Stephans at Ft. McClellan, Alabama where her father was the Post Commander.
Jo taught 5th grade in Mississippi and Alabama and then spent the majority of time raising their three Daughters, Helen Stephans Henry now of Henderson, Nevada, Deborah Stephans Hendricks, of Appleton Wisconsin, and Julie Stephans Calloway of Boulder City, Nevada. The family was stationed with the Army in Alabama, Maryland, Kansas, Okinawa, Tennessee, Northern Virginia, and had four tours of duty in New Mexico.
Jo loved playing bridge and canasta, but she never enjoyed coming in second. She continued life-long friendships and visits with her sorority sisters and was an active member of P.E.O. AF Chapter in Boulder City.
She is survived by her husband Richard (Colonel, U.S. Army, Retired) of 60 years, a sister, Cissy Spivey, of Richmond Virginia, their three daughters, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to her life. After a private family celebration of her life, ashes will be placed at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City and scattered at the family cabin in Duck Creek, Utah.
