Joanne Magaw

Joanne Virginia Rothschild Magaw, age 84, of Boulder City, NV passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 30, 2015. She was born in Chicago, IL on May 31, 1931 to Elmer and Alice Edler Rothschild. In August of 1936, Joanne and her family moved to Los Angeles, CA. She married David Lawrence Magaw on May 4, 1957, in Los Angeles, CA . Joanne taught school in California and moved with her family to Boulder City, NV, in 1964 from Hawthorne, CA.

While living in Boulder City, Joanne was active in many organization including Mothers Club, Campfire Girls, and PTA. For many years she was very active in the Boy Scouts of America organization, serving as Den Leader for Cubs, Bears, Wolves, and Webelos. Joanne also taught at the Oaklane Academy, where she was much loved by the students she inspired.

Many people knew Joanne as "Miss Joanne," the children's librarian in Boulder City. She loved to work with children, read them stories, and instill in them the love of reading that she had. Joanne also enjoyed music, singing, traveling, camping, doing hand crafts, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and had a strong faith in Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.

Joanne is survived by her husband David Magaw; three children Michael (Michelle) Magaw, Kathleen (Thomas) Stewart, Edward Magaw; six grandchildren Jacob, Sean, Nick, Aundriana, Riley, and Ryan, and brother, Norman (Lois) Rothschild and family.

Joanne is so much more than words can convey, and she will be missed greatly by her family and friends who love her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 10 am to 11am with funeral service starting at 11am at the Christ Lutheran Church 1401 5th Street, Boulder City, NV. Joanne was an avid donor to many charities, including World Wildlife Federation, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, KNPR, and several others which support children, families, and animals.
