John Balchunas, loving husband of Kathy Burns Balchunas, died peacefully on December 5, 2015, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas at the age of almost 100. John was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 10, 1915 and lived there until 2004 when he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
John was a WW II veteran, serving in the United States Army 95th Infantry Division and retired from a career with the United States Post Office.
John was pre deceased by his first wife of 53 years, Marie Chole. He was also pre deceased by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Ed Balchunas, as well as his grandson John "Jay" Balchunas.
John is survived by his sons Donald (Mary Kay) of New Berlin, WI, Michael (Vickie) of Greenville, SC, and Peter (Carol Ann) of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Suzanne BouAC. (Adelqui), Linda Lamm (Christopher), Brian Balchunas (Kelly) and Daniel Balchunas (Meghan). Together his grandchildren have provided John with seven beautiful great grandchildren.
On November 27, 2015, friends and all of John's family gathered with him for a wonderful celebration of his century of life. He will be remembered for all the joy, memories and good times he brought us that day.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4490 Mountain Vista, Las Vegas on Monday December 14, 2015 at 12:00 Noon; followed by interment at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.
