John Elwood Evans, age 75, of Las Vegas, NV passed away on December 10, 2013. He was born in Shamokin, PA on January 22, 1938 to Harold and Edith Evans. He joined the Navy and served proudly for 20 years before retiring and working another 20 years as a school teacher. He married Geraldine Yordy on January 25, 1958 in Paxinos, PA. John was a great coach of baseball, football, and wrestling. He was also very athletic and enjoyed playing all sports especially baseball and softball. He also enjoyed playing poker. As a teacher he taught 4th and 5th graders at Jim Thorpe Elementary School in Pocono, PA. Before his illness, he and his wife traveled all over the United Stated in their motor home visiting friends, family, and exploring new places. John is survived by his wife Geraldine Evans of Las Vegas, a daughter Michele (Bill) Lee of Las Vegas, two grandchildren Jaime (Shaun) Lehman, Bryce Lee, a great grandson Nate Lehman, sister, Grace Ann, (Capt. Joe) Phillips, brother, Ralph (Nancy) Evans, brother-in-law, John Yordy, nephew, Joe (Lisa) Phillips, Scott Phillips, Mark (Dawn) Evans and Jonathan (Kristin). He is preceded death by his two sons Kevin Evans and Chris Evans. Memorial service will be held on January 22, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005.
