John Christopher Gronfeldt, a longtime resident of Boulder City, died suddenly on January 6, 2012. John was born in Lakewood, California on October 20, 1967. He moved with his family to Boulder City in 1969. After high school he lived in Henderson for a few years before returning to his beloved Boulder City.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Boulder Disposal for 14 years. When asked what he did for a living, he would often remark that he "played in dirt all day". John has a big heart and not a mean bone in his body. One of the things he enjoyed most was cooking for his friends. His specialty was barbecuing and smoking meats. He was known for Sunday barbecues. He adored cats. He rescued feral cats providing them with food, medical attention, and companionship. He was also a computer aficionado. He used his talents to refurbish old computers and gave them to needy children.
His sister Susan Kohlman and a brother in law Pete Kohlman of Boulder City, sister Nancy Gronfeldt and partner Keah Taylor of Springfield, Oregon, and an aunt and uncle Amelia and John Dahlke of Grand Island Nebraska survive him.
Boulder City Family Mortuary is handling interment. A celebration of his life will be held January 22 at 11:30 am at the Boulder City United Methodist Church located inside the senior center across from the Boulder Dam Credit Union. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Boulder City United Methodist Church Building Fund. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the congregation of the Boulder City United Methodist Church, close family friend Joe Roche, and attorney Ron Hubel. Family can friends can sign an online guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com .
