John I. Keener, 99, of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away with his loving wife "Sam" by his side on September 5, 2024. John was a retired Navy commander serving during three wars-WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He joined the Navy at 17 in Hopewell, VA, in 1943. He retired after 29 years in 1972. He also spent another 15 years as a test and evaluation engineer with a local company in Albuquerque, NM. He retired from that job and worked odd jobs that he loved until he was 80. Traveling far and wide with Sam became his favorite pastime. Seeing the Tattoo at the Edinburgh Castle was the highlight of his traveling along with putting a penny at the Remagen Bridge in Germany for his brother Buddy, who was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Vanda "Sam" Keener, sons JC Manzaneres and Jason "Axl" Plum (Rach), grandchildren Kelly (Scott Priputen), Erin (Warren Campbell), Dawson Plum (Alex), Phoenix Plum, Marcus Campos, Nick Manzaneres, John Manzaneres, Scout Manzaneres and many great grandchildren.
John (better known as Boppa by the family) will be greatly missed by everyone in the family and all of his friends. There are not enough words to say how much he will be missed by his wife Sam. John was the absolute best partner a person could have. He always said "I Love You" when he woke up in the morning and again every night, and many times during the day. He loved to travel and Sam was willing to go anywhere and everywhere. True soul mates.
