John Edward Kleem age 82, passed away at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 8, 2011 surrounded by family. John was born on December 6, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles and Catherine Gibson Kleem. John served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Alma Jean Covert on March 23, 1946 in New Port, Kentucky.
They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1953 from Cincinnati. John worked as a craps dealer at the Desert Inn, Riviera, Tropicana, MGM Grand, and Caesars Palace before retiring in 2001 at the age of 72. After retiring he spent his next years building 15 beautiful homes.
John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather that loved to surprise his family with spontaneous vacations. He also insisted on the family being together to celebrate the major holidays. He loved horse racing and playing golf.
John is survived by his wife Alma Jean Kleem of Las Vegas, NV; three children, John E. Kleem II of Boulder City, NV, Shirley A Shultz of Las Vegas, NV, Teresa M Snyder of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers Charles "Chuck" Kleem of Union City, OH, William "Bill" Kleem of Powder Springs, GA; four grandchildren Michelle (Marc) Greenberg of Las Vegas, NV, Kristin (James) Bush of Las Vegas, NV, Traci (David) Waldahl of Las Vegas, NV, Robin (Eric) Martin of Castaic, CA, and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Nevada State Veterans Home at 100 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005 in the name of John Kleem.
