John Rolfe Stanton

John R. Stanton, 79, passed away March 5, 2025, at his home in Scenic, AZ. John was born March 27, 1945, in Pocatello, Idaho to Clarence and Ethel Stanton. He was the oldest of three children. In John's youth, the family moved around the state of Nevada following his father's occupation in construction. Eventually they settled in Reno and John graduated from high school there. John was drafted into the US Army and deployed to Viet Nam for 2 years. When he returned, he began his career in restaurant construction for Engskel Corporation. This is where he became associated with the Peppermill Corporation in Reno and eventually, he came to Mesquite to build the Peppermill buildings here. He had a large crew that worked under him. John made friends here and eventually he convinced his wife, Linda to relocate to this area. They built a home near the Palms Golf Course in what is now considered Scenic, AZ. After the Peppermill was completed, he went to work for Clint and Chuck Bentley's Pride Construction, Inc. and headed many jobs in the area. He was known for doing the best work and completing the job on time. He made many friends in the area and was well respected among the construction community.

John married Denise McConnell in 1966, just before he left for Viet Nam. He and Denise had 2 daughters, Julie and Michelle. They later divorced.

John married Linda Riggins June 15, 1973, in Virginia City, NV. Linda was a cowgirl and John always made sure she had a place to keep her horses, dogs and cats. They were married 51 years.

John is survived by his loving wife Linda, of Scenic, AZ, his daughters Julie Stanton of Twin Falls, ID and Michelle (Bill Flynn) of Las Vegas, NV, four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his sister Clarice Stanton of Commerce, GA and his brother-in-law, John Bevins of Susanville, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marlene Bevins.

John loved hunting, guns, reloading and reading western novels. He was a kind and patient man and loved Linda dearly. He will be greatly missed. There will be no services.
