John Owen Stowe was born on July 9, 1931 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma; his parent’s only child. He passed away on March 27, 2021 in Boulder City, Nevada. John served in Japan with the United States Army from 1951-1953.
In 1962, John moved to Las Vegas to work at the Nevada Test Site. He later worked as a Mechanical Engineer at the Four Queens, Sahara and Flamingo Hilton Hotels.
John met Georgia in the parking lot of the Sahara Hotel one afternoon and asked her if she would like to have a drink with him. They met at 7-11 for a Dr. Pepper and then went to see the “Star Wars” movie. John stopped smoking and drinking and in his own works, “it was one of the easiest things I ever did,”. He loved her so much he wanted to make her happy and it ended up making them both very happy and healthy. They traveled together and love to fly kites on the beaches in California.
John and Georgia were married on July 5, 1976 in the Little Chapel of the West. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on May 16, 1977. They were sealed together on October 29, 1992 in the Las Vegas Temple. John and Georgia moved to Boulder City, Nevada in 1978 and loved so many Boulder City friends that they never thought of going anywhere else.
They have six children (Wanda Jeffords, Joni Grim, Janice Loggins, Bill Rackey, Don Rackey, and Julie Tackey) and 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
John loved to help others! He delivered meals to the elderly, helped with the Bishop’s food orders, drove members to church, and visited the homebound. He and Georgia served an 18-month mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse while his grandson Brad served a mission in Washington. At the end of their missions, Brad and Grandparents Stowe Came through the gate at Las Vegas Airport together to meet many family and friends.
John was a dedicated Husband, father and grandfather. He tenderly cared for Georgia in her last days. We know he truly loves her and has missed her. John Owen Stowe is a great man who is loved by many. He truly had a blessed life. He truly blessed the lives of a great many people.
