Joseph Donnelly Sr

Joseph Patrick Donnelly, Sr. age 96, of Boulder City, NV passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 12, 2014. He was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan, Canada on October 17, 1917, and was the last of four children born to John Joseph and Margaret Ryan Donnelly to pass away. Joseph married Rhea Irene Barr on February 16, 1940, in Tucson, AZ and was later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. They moved to Boulder City from Salt Lake in 1968.

Joseph converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the age of 29 and remained an active and faithful member for the rest of his life. He served in many church assignments including the Young Men's presidency, the Sunday School presidency, and as a scoutmaster.

Joseph's other passions in life included athletics and woodworking. He was a huge Dodger fan and loved to play church softball. He also enjoyed skiing mountain slopes and did so until the age of 80. His love of woodworking led him to a professional career in cabinet making and doing special woodworking related projects for family and friends in his free time.

Joseph is survived by his wife Rhea Donnelly of Boulder City, NV; four children Sharon (Dale) Imlay of Boulder City, Colleen (Ron) Earl of Gilbert, AZ, Ilene (Mark) Ethington of Centerville, UT, Joseph (Lisa) Donnelly of Boulder City; daughter-in-law Karen Donnelly; 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son John Donnelly, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Donnelly, and grandson Chad Ethington.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 1:00 pm, at the LDS Chapel located at 1550 Buchanan Blvd in Boulder City. Visitation will be on Friday, January 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and again on Saturday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Entombment will follow the services at Palm Mortuary Boulder City at 3:00 pm.
