Joseph E. Wappel, age 84, died October 30, 2015 at St. Rose De Lima Hospital in Henderson Nevada. Joseph was born in East St. Louis, Illinois in 1931 to Frank and Theresia (Hagen) Wappel, and attended Central Catholic High School in East St. Louis. He worked as calcinations technical for ALCOA until 1957. Until retiring in the 1990s, he worked as a loss-control technician for numerous companies in Illinois, Texas, and Del Webb in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was last employed as a safety inspector on Johnston Atoll. He was a member with The Knights of Columbus and St Andrews Parish in Boulder City, Nevada. He donated to a number of charities such as DAV, Wounded Warriors and American Indian charity, St Joseph's Indian School operated by the Priests of the Sacred Heart charities, and Libre American Indian School.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Frank Wappel, a sister Teresa Wappel, and his wife of 50 years, Florence Kearns-Potts, who died in 2003. Surviving are children Joseph Wappel of Rockville, Maryland, Janet Vessey of Boulder City, David Wappel of Boulder City, Tony Wappel of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and grandchildren Lindsay Hausman of New Orleans, and Sam and Max Wappel of Rockville, Maryland.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 10:00 am at St Andrew's Catholic Community 1399 San Felipe Dr. Boulder City, NV 89005.
