Las Vegas, Nevada – Karrl Clifford Saxon.
With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, the family of Karrl C. Saxon announces the passing of our husband, dad, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend on Friday, February 14, 2025.
Karrl was born September 20, 1944, at the Navy Hospital in Oakland, California, to Charles Clifford and Edith Saxon. A few minutes after his birth, a twin sister, Kaarla, joined the family. The twins were almost a year old before meeting their father, as he was on a naval ship in the South Pacific at the time of their birth. When Karrl was 9-years old, his father passed away unexpectedly, leaving him to be the head of the household to his mother and sister, a responsibility which shaped him to be a firm and diligent provider and family man.
Karrl is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Bonnie Riggs Saxon, his three children: Rhonda Lynn (Steve) Wallace; Erik Karrl (Pamela) Saxon; and Sarah Adell (Oscar) Larios-Robles, his twin sister, Kaarla Butts, along with 10 of the most beautiful grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He also has many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that mourn his passing. His family was always his top priority and proudest achievement in life.
After graduating from High School, Karrl enlisted and spent four years in the Navy Reserves. Following his Military Service, he worked for Los Angeles Power and Water. He was accepted into the Los Angeles County Police Academy and upon graduation served as a Police Officer for the City of Gardena, California. In the late 1970s, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked as a Maintenance Engineer with the International Hotel, later known as the Las Vegas Hilton. He retired from the Las Vegas Hilton after 33 years of service.
Karrl had a passion for working with the youth in many volunteer capacities such as a State of Nevada Hunter Education/Gun Safety Instructor; Coach for Little League Baseball and Pop-Warner Youth Football; and a Scout Leader for Boy Scouts of America. As a Scout Leader, he participated in the advanced national leadership course for Wood Badge achieving the classification of an “Owl”. He enjoyed the experiences of passing off his 18-month ticket goals and proudly wore his Gilwell Scarf and beads.
It is not uncommon for Karrl to receive a phone call, a letter, or run into someone in public that he worked with years prior in scouting, sports or hunter education, thanking him for making such an impact on their life, which was an ultimate joy, as he didn’t need awards or public recognition, but was happy and satisfied to know he provided a positive influence on others.
Along with working with the youth, Karrl spent a number of years volunteering time with the Nevada State Prison system in Jean, Nevada, where every Sunday, along with one night during the week, he met and ministered to the prisoners in hopes of helping them gain faith in their Lord and Savior, and feel the love of God, regardless of what they had done in their life. Karrl did not judge or condemn but accepted, encouraged, and showed unconditional love.
Karrl loved the outdoors and spent many hours camping, backpacking, hiking, off-roading, fishing, and hunting. Being on his boat at Lake Mead or Lake Powell brought him joy, and he was a good sport in admitting that his wife Bonnie always caught bigger and more fish than he did. For many years he hiked to the top of Mt. Charleston on an annual basis, and one of his most memorable backpacking and camping trips was with his son Erik to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the Havasupai Indian Reservation and Havasu Falls.
He loved traveling and exploring new areas. He and Bonnie were working on a goal to visit all fifty states, along with attending a game at all the Major-League Baseball Stadiums. He will now have to finish those trips in Bonnie’s heart.
Simply put, Karrl was a good man with great wisdom and compassion. We will dearly miss him and look forward to the day we can once again take his hand and walk side-by-side. We appreciate your continued prayers through this time of grieving.
Services to honor Karrl will be Saturday March 15, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, 9270 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
