Kenneth Ira Oxenrider, age 89 passed away on February 8, 2016. He was born in Pennsylvania to Ira and Ruth Oxenrider on July 18, 1926. He married Delma Kehler in 1951 and she preceded him in death. Kenneth served in the US Army during WWII as a machine gunner and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He attended Virginia Military Institute in 1944 and after the war he graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work for Hercules Inc. for 35 years and retired in 1986.
Ken loved sailing! He was a captain of numerous sailboats during his life. He also was a crew member for an ocean yacht sailing up the East Coast for a week. He moved to Nevada, he volunteered on Lake Mead for the Park Service, often using his own sailboat. He shared some great stories from that experience. In the 1960's Ken stated drawing in oil pastels. He was a member of the Boulder City Art Guild for many years, and participated in numerous art shows. His greatest gift to his family was his sense of humor. It has been passed on to his daughters and grandchildren.
Ken is survived by his three "Girls": Linda Vernooy (Chuck) of Loveland, CO, Cheri Grodski (Tom) of Boulder City, NV, Kim Murray (Scott) of Boulder City, NV; seven grandchildren: Galen, Colin, Zachary, Samantha, Daniel, Ryan and Shaun.
