Kim Alan English Born on August 4,1950 in Joliet, Illinois. Kim passed away on February 5, 2018, after a year-long battle with cancer. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Kim served on fast attack nuclear submarines during the Vietnam War. Immediately after discharge, Kim lived in Hawaii for ten years; surfing and backpacking his way across all seven main islands. Since 1979, Kim’s permanent home has been on Mt, Charleston, where he is remembered as the friendly bartender at the old Mt. Charleston Lodge and the Lee Canyon Ski Area, and also as a member of the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department. Over the years, Kim has enjoyed skiing and hiking all over the mountain. In 1990, Kim married Joy Plutte, also a resident of Mt. Charleston. Together, they designed and completely rebuilt their mountain retreat, including a unique koi/goldfish pond system. For 16 years, Kim was the owner/operator of K & J’s Crane Service in Las Vegas. Since 2005, the couple have been “snowbirds,” wintering in Boulder City, where Kim enjoyed fishing and sailing on Lake Mead, working on his classic vehicles, and most of all, his daily walks in Veteran’s Park with his beloved Rhodesian Ridgeback, Bo. Kim is survived by his loving wife, Joy, stepson Christopher Plutte, stepgranddaughters Kyla and Teagan Plutte, and siblings Tom English, Sue Baltz, Linda Journey and Jim English. He also leaves behind many warm and loving friends, both “on the mountain” and in B.C.
