Laurence Carlton Shepherd, age 84, of Boulder City, NV passed away on December 14, 2015. He was born in Winchester, MA on July 10, 1931 to Francis and Jenny Stokes Shepherd. He married Frieda Schmitzikus on July 24, 1954 in Starnberg, Germany. He served his country and retired from the United States Air Force. After retirement, he was Fire Marshall on the DEW Line. He then worked as a Fire Chief for the Civil Service stationed at several Air Force Bases. While serving he lived in many different places in and out of the United States. He moved to Boulder City from Clark Air Base, Philippines in 1984.
Since living in Boulder City Laurence has been very involved in the Boulder City Horseman's Association and held many positions including President for 10 plus years. They dedicated the concession stand "Shepherd's Shack" to him and his wife last year. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Golfing, reading and watching western movies (John Wayne his favorite) were other hobbies he enjoyed.
Laurence is survived by his wife Frieda Shepherd; four children Marie Jane (Ed) Rohrer, Brenda (Mike)Rohrer, Karen (Santana) Yslas, Meegan (Alan) Gallenbeck; a sister Martha (David) Hall of Sebastian, FL; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on December 30, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guest book at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
