Dean Maris, age 90 of Boulder City, Nevada passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. He was born in Glendale, California on March 31, 1934 to Pauline Olivia Thompson and Emerson Lewis Maris. He joined the United States Navy at age 17 during the Korean War Conflict. He was one of just a few surviving veterans of the atomic experiments during Operation Castle Bravo personally witnessing 6 atomic explosions. He recently received a prized medal for distinguished service during that time. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Vicki and his daughter Karen. He is survived by sons Keith, Kenny, Kraig (Susan) and daughter Konne (Tony). Also, grandchildren Valerie, Riley, Casey, Alicia, Rocky, Chad, Matt, Jacob, Jared, Amanda and Sara. He also is survived by 17 great grandchildren with another on the way.
Dean wore many hats in his lifetime; contractor, deli owner, salvage diver, dance instructor, church youth counselor are some. Dean loved to dance and he possessed a devilish sense of humor which he was always ready to share. He usually had a joke or two, or three at the ready. One of his favorite things, besides spoiling his best friend Barbara, was family gatherings, and dinners with friends at the Elk’s Lodge. He often could be found frequenting music venues in support of local artists. He was a life member of the Boulder City Elk’s Lodge and an active member of Grace Community Church.
A viewing for Dean Maris will be held Thursday, June 13th, 2024 at Star Mortuary, 900 Nevada Way, Boulder City, Nevada between 2:00-4:00PM. The funeral with Military Honors will be held at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City on Friday, June 14th at 10:40AM
