Lydia Vergara Shopshire, age 83 of Boulder City, NV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 11, 2022.
Lydia was born on December 28, 1938, in Agno, Pangasinan, Philippines, to the late Laureano and Loreto (Navidad) Vergara. She and her family immigrated to Pahala, Hawaii, in 1946, where she spent the formative years of her life.
In her junior year of high school, Lydia and her family moved to Gardena, California. Lydia spent many years there and achieved several life milestones; she completed nursing school, began her career, and met her husband, Billy James Shopshire. They were married March 3, 1962.
Bill and Lydia moved to Boulder City in 1971, where they raised their four children. Lydia was a nurse in Southern Nevada, including at Boulder City Hospital, for over thirty years. She later enjoyed her retirement and spending time with her friends and family. Lydia filled her days in a variety of ways; she was the organist at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church for many years, and also enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, and playing her grand piano. Still remembering her time in Hawaii fondly, Lydia looked forward to attending her Ka’u High School reunions in Las Vegas and catching up with old friends.
Lydia is survived by her three sons, Michael, Preston, and Roger Shopshire; her daughter Cheryl (Robert) Herr; siblings Gualbero Vergara and Edita (Joe) Munroe; grandchildren Emma, Nolan, and Raegan Herr; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lydia is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, as well as her brother, Renato Vergara, and sister, Wildaluz Eidson.
While Lydia will be missed dearly, her family finds comfort in knowing she’s at peace. Celebration of life details to follow.
