Marion Jean Kelly, 80, of Boulder City and formerly of Yakima, WA passed away May 7th. She was born June 20, 1936 in Flint, MI and had lived in Boulder City since 2010. She received her B.S. in Nursing in 1959 and became a traveling home health RN working for the State of Nevada, based in Tonopah, NV where she met her husband of 42 years, George R. Kelly. Widowed in 2005 she later moved to Boulder City along with her daughter Jean, her husband Kyle Widner and his mother, Dora Widner.
As a youth she excelled in school, girls scouts and religious teachings and had originally planned to enter a convent at the age of 18. However at the last minute she decided to pursue her nursing degree instead. Later in life, in Yakima she fulfilled her life-long love of books by owning a bookstore called the Book Nook for 18 years. A breast cancer survivor, she helped create a resource library in Yakima for cancer victims as well as libraries for various drug and alcohol treatment centers in the Yakima Valley. Marion was deeply spiritual and loved discussing books, authors and different teachings and philosophies of all kinds. Marion was a gentle soul and was loved by all who knew her sweet smile.
She is survived by her sister Ann Locke of North Platte, NE, and her three children Matt Locke, TJ Locke and Stacy Locke, and daughter Jean Widner, son-in-love Kyle Widner and fellow mother-in-love counter part Dora Widner, all of Boulder City, NV.
An informal Celebration of Life for Marion will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 1pm. The service will be potluck style at the home of daughter Jean and Kyle Widner, at 861 Da Vinci Cove, Boulder City. Family and friends can sign an online guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
