Mary Hazel Moss Longley was born November 28, 1929 in Dyer, AR to Charles Vance and Gladys Lillian Moss. She passed away June 15, 2017 in Boulder City, NV at the age of 87. As a teen, she moved with her family to Bakersfield, CA. Mary attended San Jose State College as a home economics major, and left her studies when she married J. Kent Longley in 1950. As newlyweds, they moved to Henderson and soon after reestablished their home in Las Vegas, where she became an active member of the community. Her husband Kent was a general contractor in the Las Vegas-based family business, Longley Construction Co., Inc. Upon his retirement in 1988, they moved to Boulder City.
Mary will be remembered for her warmth, grace, friendship to others, creativity, and style. She was a devoted wife and mother. Service to others was also of the utmost importance. She was an active member of Griffith United Methodist Church, Church Women United, the Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary (now UMC), the Salvation Army Auxiliary, the Mesquite Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Boulder City’s Grace Community Church.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Martha Owinda Thompson and son, James Vance Longley. She is survived by her husband, James Kent Longley; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Lynn and William L. Meyer; daughter-in-law, Christina Bentley Longley, son and daughter-in-law, John Kent and Robin Hardy Longley; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie Beth and John T. Hartig; granddaughters, Liann Longley Tackett and Katherine Hazelle Longley; and great granddaughters, Shelby Christine Tackett and Ashley Grace Tackett.
Private family services will be held to honor Mary’s memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boulder City Hospital or the Grace Community Church. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
