Specht, Mary Scholtz
August 31, 1947 – January 20, 2025
On January 20, 2025, Mary Scholtz Specht of Las Vegas, NV entered eternal rest at the age of 77.
Mary was born in Tulsa, OK on August 31, 1947. She graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans, LA in 1966. After which she relocated to Wichita, KS where she held several jobs and then trained and received her cosmetology license. Mary cut and colored her clients’ hair with the same precision and creativity she eventually applied to jewelry making after she moved to Las Vegas. Mary enjoyed plants and animals, and she had an affinity for many a feathered friend. She bred love birds and owned three kinds of exotic parrots during her lifetime. Max, her African Grey Parrot, survives her and sounds exactly like her when he speaks.
Mary’s friends and loved ones will remember her as a person who lived life by her own rules. Mary was respected by many for her moxie. She was also patriotic and loved her country.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard & Maxine Scholtz, her second husband, Anthony Specht, her brother Robert Scholtz and his wife Barbara, and her nieces, Keri Scholtz and Diana Scholtz.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Moats (Ronald), James Robillard, and Amber McCord (John); grandchildren: Jessica Ly (Phi) and Maxine McCord; brother Richard Scholtz (Nita), sister Janice Scholtz, brother Donald Scholtz (Ruth), and numerous relatives.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at In Home Personal Care Services & Healing Hearts Home Health Care for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City, NV at Noon on February 14, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mary Specht to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or to the Southwest Exotic Avian Parrot Rescue of Las Vegas.
