Merle A. Mitchell known as “Mitch” passed away peacefully at the Homestead Assisted Living in Boulder City, NV on January 16, 2018. He was born in Clinton, OK on July 31, 1939 to A. U. and Verna Mitchell. They settled in Fullerton, CA during WWII where Merle grew up. He graduated from Fullerton High School in 1957 and promptly joined the Marine Corps. While serving in Okinawa, he was a member of the Marine Corps boxing team and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. Merle was a true Renaissance Man. He returned to Orange County and worked for Standard Oil as a rig mechanic on and off shore, owned bars and became successful in the swimming pool/spa service and repair business prior to relocating his business to Boulder City serving the entire Las Vegas/Henderson area. He loved living in Boulder City and was a true outdoors man. Merle enjoyed tournament bass fishing, hunting throughout Nevada, Arizona, and Utah and driving his VW Baja bug off road.
Merle and Hope, his wife of 21 years, spent a great deal of their retirement years living on their rural ranch near Springfield, MO and raised horses. They loved the beauty and laid back life style in MO but eventually returned to their home in Boulder City.
Merle is survived by his wife Hop Mitchell; son Michael Mitchell of Los Angeles, CA; daughter Kathryn Yateman of Boulder City, NV; brother Don Mitchell of Fallbrook, CA; nephew Matt Mitchell of San Clemente, CA; niece Lindsay Mitchell Hastert of Winchester, CA; and his loyal dogs Megan and Cody.
There will be a private family get together to celebrate his life. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
