Monte J Morris, devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather passed away peacefully on July 19, 2021 in Henderson, Nevada. He was 86 years of age.
Monte was born July 31, 1934, in Payson Utah to Eldon J Morris and Naveda Twede. Monte grew up in Payson, Utah as the first of two sons, and graduated from Payson High School in 1952. Monte served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southern States Mission and later attended Brigham Young University, where he met his future bride, Madeline Arline Traasdahl. Monte and Madeline were married in the St. George Temple on June 5, 1959, and Madeline worked while Monte finished law school at the University of Utah. They moved back to Boulder City and together raised eight children.
Monte was devoted to his family and his church. He was a highly skilled attorney, licensed to practice law in both Utah and Nevada, and served as a Clark County Deputy District Attorney, City Attorney of both Henderson and Boulder City, and a long-time private practitioner. Monte’s winning smile, quick wit, and contagious laughter warmed him to people instantly. He loved people and always left them better for having known him. Throughout his life, Monte devoted his time to his family and to church service, where he served as a missionary, seminary instructor, young men’s and scouting leader, bishop, and assistant temple recorder. Monte and Madeline also served a humanitarian mission in Indonesia in 2000-2001.
Monte is survived by his children Kevin Morris (Tammy), Bruce Morris (Xanne), Michelle George (Stephen), Shawn Morris (Leisel), Steven Morris (Lisa), Jason Morris (Stephanie), Heather Stewart (Kevin), and Robert Morris (Tara), 40 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Eldon J Morris, stepfather, Lamar Ellett Durfey, brother, Clark Morris, mother, Naveda Durfey, and his eternal companion, Madeline Morris.
Monte and Madeline’s children express their sincere gratitude to Monte’s many caregivers for their tender and compassionate care.
