Nina W. Koistinen silently went to be with her Lord on April 14, 2017. She was 93 years old. Born in Arkansas on February 21, 1924, she was one of four children. She moved to St. Louis, MO where she met the love of her life, Clayton W. Koistinen. In 1953 they were married and moved to Southern California.
She was a Southern woman who opened her doors and treated you like family from the moment you were introduced. A stranger never entered her home. She was a steadfast member of her church, teaching Sunday School for almost 30 years and participating in a multitude of women's ministries. She enjoyed summer vacations with her family. She loved traveling by car across the United States not only to visit extended family, but to discover many of the nation's parks. She surprised everyone by hiking to Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon on two separate occasions. After she had raised her children, she and Clay were able to travel to places that included Australia, Canada, and Mexico to name a few. In 2002 they left Southern California and moved to Boulder City, NV in time for the arrival of their second great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clay and her two sisters. She is survived by three children, Marisue (Dean) Barnes, Greg Koistinen, and Brenda (Roger) Clark; three grandchildren, Tami (Michael) Leavitt, Ryan (Elizabeth) Barnes, and Aaron Clark; and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Veterans Cemetery on May 23, 2017 at 11:20am. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
