Surrounded by family in her last few days, our beloved mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Norma Lee Kilpatrick passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 28, 2021, from complications after a stroke. She was 89 years old. Norma was born on October 8th, 1931 to Edward and Bernice Phillips in Long Beach, CA.
Norma grew up in Long Beach, CA, where she met her husband, Jack Kilpatrick. As newlyweds, the couple moved to Bremerton, WA briefly, before returning to California to raise their children. They lived in both Westminster and Garden Grove, before moving to Las Vegas, NV for their retirement.
Norma was fiercely independent her entire life, with an inner strength that helped her through many difficult times. Even in her late 80s, she was able to program her phone and Smart TV to record movies to watch later, a skill that eludes many of her remaining family members. She strongly believed in the adage “use it or lose it” and she was determined to continue to take care of herself and all her needs. She remained sharp as a tack till the very end, and could always be counted on to remember things from the past. She truly was the family memory keeper.
Norma made friends everywhere she went and even in her 80s, she continued to make new friends. She had a knack for conversation and was a trusted confidant to many. First and foremost, she was dedicated to her family and loved ones. Norma actively supported her children in all their many activities, attending countless baton practices, parades, competitions, and other events. She especially loved her role as grandmother. Baking chocolate chip cookies was a regular activity at Grandma’s house and her chocolate sheet cake earned her the nickname “cake-grandma.”
Norma is predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Jack Kilpatrick, her two sisters Mary Davis and Delores Irvine, and her grandson, Jon Russell. She is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn Russell, Sandra Johnston, and Debra Miller (husband, Michael Schivo); her son, Tom Kilpatrick; her six grandchildren, Cynthia Graham, Sean Charsley, Stephen Russell (wife, Hallie), Deanna Miller (partner, Ian Johnson), and Danielle Boyer (husband, Brendan), and Kendall Kilpatrick; and 5 great-grandchildren, Duffy Graham, Nolan, Adalyn and Evan Russell, and Waverly Boyer.
The family would be very grateful to have those whose lives were touched by Norma share their memories of her in the online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com.
