Ramiro M Gomez

February 2, 1933 — June 8, 2023

Boulder City

Ramiro Gomez, 90 yrs old, passed away Thursday, June 8th, 2023 at Siena Hospital in Henderson, NV.  He was born on February 2nd, 1933 in Canadas, Jalisco, Mexico to Samuel Gomez and Maria de Jesus Mercado Loza.  He married Petra Aispuro on May 21st, 1960 in Boulder City, NV at St. Andrews Church.  His family moved to Tijuana, Mexico in 1938 with a population of about 60,000 people then, when he was 5.  He loved hunting and fishing small game when young.  While a teenager and early 20’s he enjoyed singing and actually sang on the radio for a brief time.  He also started selling retail to tourists and owned a small business. Bought and sold leather goods from Luis Aispuro (Petra’s oldest brother) who made the goods. On coming to Tijuana with her aunt Buenaventura (Nina) Place, to find Luis, Ramiro first set eyes on his future wife, Petra.  She was 16 and he was 21.  After a few more years of visitations, Ramiro now 25, started to court Petra. He would fly into McCarran airport in Las Vegas on Hacienda flights a few times a year to see her while being chaperoned the whole time. He even recorded two songs on a record for Petra during that period. They married, moved to Tijuana for about a year, Ramiro Adan, their first child, was born.  Soon after, moved to Boulder City to live with Nina in a duplex, to find work and start a new life. After a few odd jobs, he started working at Hydroconduit, a cement pipe manufacturer in Henderson. Started as a laborer and ended up a supervisor after 5 years when he went on to open a small gift shop in Boulder City and named it Little Mexico. After 10 years, a building became available across the street and he ran both stores, naming the second store what is still now, Western and Mexican Center. His idea was to sell cowboy wear, including boot, saddles,, holsters, hats, etc.  Decided 2 stores was one too many so he sold off Little Mexico.  Ramiro and Petra raised 7 children, 5 boys, twin girls and had them all work in the store while growing up teaching them many life lessons in the process and gaining confidence to be successful.  The family has been in business since September 17, 1965, 57 years and will continue to stay open until God decides otherwise.

Ramiro is survived by his wife Petra of 63 years, children Ramiro(Adriana), Adolfo(Juanita), Pablo(Cindy), Antonia(Dave Carpenter, Angelica(Bill Moorhead), 19 grandchildren , and 7 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his two sons Jose Angel and Rosendo Ines, and his grandson Ari Tomas. Ramiro lived a full life with a lot of love and family around.  He will be truly missed.  We love you!
