With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Retta Mae Purser. Retta peacefully departed this world on July 11, 2024, at the age of 96. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, Retta's life was a testament to love, resilience, and grace.
She was born on January 22, 1928, in Spearfish, South Dakota, to Raymond Clark and Nellie Louise Gorham. Retta was the youngest of five children.
Retta met the love of her life, Fairon Nash Purser, in San Diego, California. They married on December 6, 1945, and had eight children: five girls and three boys. Together, they built their close-knit family and instilled their values of hard work, kindness, and generosity. Family gatherings were always filled with laughter and love.
Retta was a woman of many talents and interests. She had a green thumb and spent countless hours tending to her garden, including many fruit trees, creating a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility. She enjoyed crocheting many projects for her family and friends. Also, she loved being outdoors and spent many years hunting and fishing in the Utah mountains with her family. A favorite place for Retta and Fairon was their property at Starvation Reservoir.
Retta's legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She is survived by her children, Sandy (Larry), Vickie (Larry), Jeff (Pat), Louise (Earl), Brian (Anita), Kim (Brad), Troy, and Becky (Darrin). She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Retta was preceded in death by her husband, Fairon, her brothers, and her sister.
Retta's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff with Hospice, where she spent her final months surrounded by compassionate care. We invite family and friends to leave condolences or memories at www.starmortuary.com.
