Richard “Rich” Emmett Baughman, age 74, of Boulder City, NV passed away on July 16,
2020. He was born on June 6, 1946 in Michigan to Roy and Jeanette Gibb Baughman. He
was drafted by the Army and served our country in the Vietnam War. Rich moved to
Boulder City in 1982 and began his service to the community as an insurance agent. Rich
married his angel in life Sandra Gaunt on December 26, 2015, in Boulder City. Sandra
preceded him in death in 2019.
Rich was a very active member of the Boulder City community and participated with, and
supported, many organizations over the years. But his true passion was in service to
Rotary and specifically the Boulder City Sunrise Rotary Club. As a member of the Sunrise
Rotary he served as President from 1992-1993 and was instrumental in the formation of
the All-Night Graduation Party as well as the successful history of WurstFest. His
contributions to these causes undoubtedly touched and changed hundreds of lives. In
addition to Rotary, Rich was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Boulder City Chamber of
Commerce.
Richʼs love for life and celebration made him a desired attendee at any special event. His
willingness to do whatever it took to make a friend laugh was a rare gift, and his simple
presence in a crowd would make you smile. He was not afraid to let his hair down and
subject himself to good-natured ribbing. It was this trait that inevitably led to him
standing on the side of the highway in a straight-jacket abandoned by his friends, and
“cooped” up in a cage covered in chicken feed with live chickens.
To say he lived life to the fullest would be an understatement. He was a devout
Parrothead and likely attended more Jimmy Buffet concerts than Jimmy himself. His
appearance as auctioneer at the annual WurstFest Auction was eagerly anticipated by all
to see what costume would be the flavor of year. From Elvis to the Pharoah, Rich was
comfortable (if not somewhat warm) in his entertainment role. And it was in this role that
he was instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit Boulder City.
He was larger than life, and for those who knew him, shared his life willingly. Boulder City
is a much better place for having had Rich as a resident and he will be dearly missed by
friends and family alike.
He is survived by his two children Jennifer Baughman-Cole, Geoffrey Baughman; two
brothers Roy (Pat) Baughman, Robert Baughman; a sister Jeanette (Gary) Lewis and one
grandchild.
Family will be holding a private burial and will be having a celebration of life at a later time
when Richardʼs large group of friends that he so loved to be around can gather. Please
