Richard Oaxaca, age 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 in Boulder City, Nevada. He was born on April 18, 1935 in Morenci, Arizona to Heraclio and Louisa (Orozco) Oaxaca. Richard served in the United States Army's 82nd "All American" Airborne Division from February 1953 to February 1956 as a paratrooper and medic.
Richard was an avid reader and enjoyed a long career in the printing business, starting out as a typesetter, and later becoming a Production Manager. Richard was also an avid bowler and he once bowled a perfect "300" game. He also loved music. His knowledge of popular music spanned decades and resulted in his appearance as a winning contestant on the Ralph Edwards television game show "Name That Tune" on January 1, 1980. He enjoyed sports and was a little league and senior league baseball coach for many years. He loved his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Raised in Los Angeles, he graduated from Belmont High in 1952. Richard was a longtime resident of La Puente, CA, before moving to Las Vegas about ten years ago. He had a strong faith and was a member of the Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn M. Oaxaca; daughters Carole Cruz (Joe), Cathy Oaxaca-Hoote (Jim); son Richard J. Oaxaca (Paulette); daughter-in-law Suzanne Oaxaca; four grandchildren Amanda Medine (Ryan), Christine Oaxaca, Matthew Oaxaca, Jessica Munkvold; brother James Oaxaca; sisters Terry Nerey, Angie Oaxaca, Irene Oaxaca; and many, many friends.
Richard will be cremated and later interred at the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside CA. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 2:30 pm at Riverside National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Boulder City Family Mortuary.
