Robert Deutsch

Robert John Deutsch MD-AAFP, "Dr. Bob", "Papa Bob", died peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan 18, 2015 in Boulder City Nev.

He was born June 14, 1928 at St Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

Dr Bob was proud his birthday was on Flag Day and always ensured the American flag was displayed on his day. He attended St James Grade School and Junior High, Denfeld High School, and the University of Minnesota in Duluth prior to obtaining his medical degree from Marquette Medical School in Milwaukee Wis., where he met the "Peg of His Heart" Marguerite Hamernik. Following his medical internship at St Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee WI, he joined the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant. He served as a Flight Surgeon in Thule, Greenland achieving the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge. After separating from the Air Force, he practiced as a private physician at the Spang Clinic in Duluth for many years. In 1976, he joined the Emergency Department at St Mary's Medical Center in Duluth where he became Director and Chief of the ER. He was Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota and served on the admission committee. After retirement, he worked several years as a cruise ship physician. He was also an active member of the Boulder City Gem Club and spent hours teaching others his jewelry making skills. He was a member of St Andrew's Catholic Community where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Dr Bob was a member of the MN Medical Society, Lake Superior Medical Society, AAFP, NV Medical Society and the AMA. He received an American Academy of Family Practice Certificate of Long-term AAFP membership of 50 years.

Dr. Bob was preceded in death by wife Marguerite; father Romeo; mother Marian; sister Margaret and son-in-law Fred Booth.

Dr Bob is survived by his seven children: Cheryl (Deutsch) and Bill Macor, Deborah (Deutsch) Booth, Mark (Karen) Deutsch, Kevin Deutsch (Judi Renier), Gregg (Elizabeth) Deutsch, Lynn (Deutsch) and Mike Lockhart, Teri (Deutsch) and Richard Rivett; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two siblings: Thomas Deutsch, DDS and Lois Deutsch.

He is truly loved and is greatly missed by family and many friends. He will be forever remembered by the many people whose lives he saved.

Mass will be held at St Andrew's Catholic Church in Boulder City on June 13, 2015 at 10:30 am and burial service is at the NV State Veteran's Cemetery on June 15, 2015 at 10:00 am.
