Our family mourns the loss but celebrates the life of our patriarch, Rosario "Ross" Pirruccello. Ross grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and joined the military in 1942 at the age of 21 to fight in WWII. He became a sergeant at the age of 22. He fought bravely in the emotionally devastating Battle of Attu, when the Japanese had troops on the ground on American soil. Because the battle was in the Pacific, the government provided the troops with summer fatigues. When Ross arrived, he found himself fighting in snow, rain, icy mud and pummeling winds, in the islands off the coast of Alaska. Men were getting frostbite and gangrene from the elements. During his time there, they had to throw sticks of dynamite into the ocean and rivers to hunt for fish. It was a 19 day battle that was only planned to last for 3 days. After the war, he taught our family what it meant to love, have faith, be strong and to be humble. He grew so sweet and kind with age. Always gentle and loving to the love of his life, Sue... now their marriage lasts for all of eternity. We salute you Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Ross and we will always love you.
A service will be celebrated for Ross on Friday September 18 at St. Andrew's Church in Boulder City. A rosary will start at 9:30am with a Mass following at 10am. There will be a reception at the parish hall immediately following the Mass. Family and friends may sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com .
