Samuel LeRoy Peebles was born February 12, 1934 in St. Louis, Illinois, son of William Mason Peebles and Lucille Ruth McCosh, passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 90 on September 29, 2024, in Mesquite, Nevada.
Samuel was a father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. Proceeded in death by his parents, wife, Mary, son, Michael, brothers, William, Richard, James and grandson Robert Samuel Stewart. Surviving family members are daughter, Debbra Stewart of Mesquite Nv., son Timothy Peebles wife Alesa. Grand children, Kyle, Brittney, Connie and Vanessa along with five great grandchildren. Brothers, John and Sandy of Illinois, Robert and Melissa of Alabama. Sisters, Carol and John McCrary of Alabama and Susan of Utah. Along with several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Samuel raised his family in San Diego, Ca. He started his working early in life, parents and his brother William delivered 800 newspapers daily for years. Then the family moved to San Diego and started a laundry business. William and Dad were in charge of deliveries including El Centro, Ca. He was a Store Manager at Lumber-Hardware Chain till his retirement.
Dad loved to go fishing with family and friends. His hobbies were gardening and grew - sold the most beautiful Plumerias with the Southern California Plumeria Society. Sam and Mary remain the only people to have won the Jeanette Mattson Best in Show award three times--in 2008 for Wildfire, 2013 for Helene, and the first inflorescence to ever win the top prize in 2015, Helene, a variety they registered with the PSA in 2014 which still knocks people out. At one point they had over 200 plants in their yard.
When mom passed, dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and not being able to stay in his home, he moved to Mesquite eight years ago to live with his daughter Debbra. The move was very hard for him, he loved San Diego, his family and friends.
