Sandra Lou Stoker, 88, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Sandra was born to Willard Leslie (Les) Nickell and Clara Ann Nickell on July 4, 1936, in Los Angeles, California. In 1943, her family moved to Boulder City, Nevada where she graduated from Boulder City High School in 1954. She then attended University of Nevada, Reno and graduated with a teaching degree in Elementary Education, in 1959. She was an elementary school teacher for 30 years, teaching second and fourth grades at Andrew J. Mitchell Elementary School, and Martha P. King Elementary School, in Boulder City, NV.
Sandra married Ben McNair in 1957, and they were blessed with two children, Stephanie and Ben Jr. Sandra later married Lamar Stoker in 1975, and she became a loving mother to Lamar’s four children: Sheila, Sterling, Suzette, and Stormie. In 1986, Sandra and Lamar were sealed in the St. George LDS temple, and they remained active in the LDS church with many church assignments throughout their lives.
Sandra was a daughter, sister, mother, stepmother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother, and friend to many. She was our “Nana”, “Grandma”, and “Granny the Great” often spoiling the grandkids a little too much. Sandra influenced many through her sweet example of integrity, loyalty, hard work, positive outlook, and Christlike love. She was always smiling and saw the good in others. She enjoyed music, playing the piano often, and also played the ukulele in a bluegrass band for many years. Together Sandra and Lamar built a family cabin in Blue Spring near Panguitch Lake, Utah. Being educators, they spent every summer there, expanding and adding finishing touches to their cabin. Friends and family were always welcome for food, fun, fishing and four-wheel riding at “The Cabin”.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Willard Leslie and Clara Ann Nickell; her siblings, Leslie Nickell and Patricia Walsh; and her husband, Lamar Stoker. She is survived by: her brother, William Nickell (98); her children: Stephanie McNair, Ben (Gloria) McNair, Sheila Rodman, Sterling (Susie) Stoker, Suzette (Rell) Sudweeks, and Stormie (Michael) Baxter; her grandchildren: Chelsea, Christopher, Jeni Beth, Skyler, Summer, Amanda and Melanie and eight great grandchildren.
